Haiti Tweetup in Waterloo

by Dan Silivestru

Raymond Luk and the gang in Montreal have decided to not sit on the side lines and do something to help with the relief efforts in Haiti. We think it’s a great initiative and so we’re putting on a sister event here in Waterloo to try and raise money to help those in need in that earthquake torn region. Here are the details:

We’re holding a meetup/Tweetup in Waterloo to raise funds for earthquake disaster relief in Haiti. All proceeds will be donated to the International Red Cross (http://www.icrc.org/).Tickets are free but we strongly encourage you to donate at least $10 at the door.

There will be a cash bar and we’re lining up door prizes and raffle prizes.

  • First 15 people with donations, get car wash tokens from Waterloo Honda (@waterloohonda)
  • Waterloo Honda is also providing several swag items, a tool/bar kit, and a free Oil and Lube.
  • McMullan’s is our gracious host and they’re also throwing in a “pool party” raffle prize (access to 3 pool tables, including 3 free pizzas)

Whether you’re part of the Kitchener Waterloo tech community or not, please come on out and tell your friends. On Twitter use #haitikwtweetup.

Facebook event here: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=260440014472&index=1

GuestListApp event here: http://guestlistapp.com/events/12648

If you or you company would like to donate an item to be raffled off or as a door prize, please contact us on twitter @tinyhippos or @confusement (Dan Silivestru) or through the wall on the Facebook Event.

Lets try and make a difference!

Startup Drinks Waterloo – recap

by Dan Silivestru

This is a little late coming, but I wanted to take a minute and recap the Waterloo event from Jan 4th.

We had a great turn out of almost 35 people. Met some great new people and had a chance to catch up with some of the regulars as well. The place was absolutely packed due to the Canada Vs. USA hockey game, but we made due :-)

Here are a few pictures from the event: (Special thanks to @cuteGecko for bringing a camera!)

Startup Drinks Edmonton on December 16, 2009!

by Robin Ahn

Prairie Startup entrepreneurs, technologists and tech enthusiasts!  It’s time to start your engines, brave the newly minted snow and start networking at your very own Startup Drinks.   Thanks to Cam Linke (known to folks from his efforts at BarCamp and DemoCamp Edmonton) the first Startup Drinks in Edmonton will be held at The Hat (map) on December 16, 2009 from 5:30pm.  Cam assures me that the swanky decor is a bit misleading – it’s still laid back and reasonably priced, which is right in line with the Startup Drinks CA philosophy.

Pass on this information to anyone you think might be interested in this event.  As always, the more the merrier!

Keep an eye on the Startup Drinks Edmonton page for more details….

Startup Drinks Montreal – November 2009 RECAP

by Robin Ahn

Montreal’s last Startup Drinks for 2009 was, like most of the year, a pretty lively one with over 40 people from every corner of the business.  We also had ring ins from Ottawa and Boston, which was great to see.   If you’ve got some of your own photos or got some love to show Startup Drinks CA, please throw it all in the comments or email me at robin@flowventures.com.

Photos thanks to Com Mirza (@thelemonadeboy), second from left.

We're in the News!

by Robin Ahn

The Ottawa Business Journal tackles the importance of meeting your colleagues, candidates, investors, partners (i.e. everyone and anyone) in the flesh to complement your online social networking.  Ottawa’s thriving startup culture – 5 startups born per week, says the OCRI – has given rise to more events than you can poke a stick at.  Coincidence?  I think not.
