Startup Drinks is a monthly freestyle networking event hosted in pubs and bars by startup community instigators from coast to coast. We keep it a presentation free and sponsor free because the point is to make connections over drinks and…..relax a little. You can talk shop, geek out or just shoot the breeze. Startup Drinks promotes synchronized drinking so if you’re out of town, chances are you could attend in another city. Wait, what? Don’t see a tab for your city? If you want to be a local instigator for mad props, start one in your own city. Here is the primer:
- Timing - we aim for the last Wed. of the month, but feel free to pick the day that suits your community the best.
- Vibe - networking yes, casual yes.
- Venue - book early and book often. A self-contained space works best; lay patrons aren’t bothered by the techies and techies don’t feel conspicuous. Do not allow bar managers to make you pay for exclusivity or minimums. Let them know you’re collecting no door money. Try to get happy hour prices! Wireless is a plus too!
- Signs – put up signs to point to your gathering area and then do it and make it painfully obvious.
- Advance registration - The best way to draw a crowd is with a crowd. We recommend using EventBrite or Guestlist for your registration needs.
- Name tags – alcohol is not the only icebreaker! Use Avery 5395 “white adhesive name badges” and create a mail merge document in Word. Bring 150% the number of registrants in blank name tags and a sharpie for last minute-ers.
- Promotion – contact Raymond or Robin and get your own city tab! Send the link out to the well-trafficked local blogs including your own, student groups and twitter.
